Fever Dream
Acrylic painting with coloured pencil on canvas, made in 2025.
Loosely based on a recurring fever dream I had as a child every night and every time I got sick. The dream would start with me in my bed and the room is getting bigger and bigger. A group of friendly monsters (resembling those from Into the Wild) stand at the end of the bed watching me and they stretch and stretch with the room until they’re towering over me.
The dream ends with me walking across wooden planks of a floating fish farm, there’s a dark blue filter over the whole scene, asian men squat in the corners heads down, silent. It feels eery and like there’s a layer of transparent foam around everything, muffled silence there’s no sound. None at all.
This painting was a part of a group show for Asian Heritage Week at Dark Horse Experiment, curated by Platform Presents.
