The Mag behind the Wacky.

Maggie Guo is a Chinese-Australian artist working on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri People in Naarm (Melbourne) of "so-called" Australia. Working mainly across illustrations, painting and hand-poke tattooing, Mag also experiments with crochet, photography, comics and anything else she can try. Her practice is intuitive, whimsical and a surreal expression of her inner life.

Mag creates worlds of movement, illusions and inter-connected narratives in her artworks as a way of processing lived experiences, emotions, memories and dreams. Her practice is very influenced by interests in the living world, psychology, philosophy and the nature of reality.

She has exhibited in many group shows across Naarm and in September 2024 participated in her first artist residency in Porto, Portugal with De Liceiras.

She is a self taught tattoo artist and has been tattooing for 4.5 years. Predominantly in Naarm and has guested across Australia and parts of Europe.
